Dongsoo Yang is Korea’s first pro bono manager to have played a significant bridging role in connecting the underprivileged such as refugees and migrant workers to human rights lawyers over numerous years. While he was supporting civil rights activists and social enterprises, he realized that most social ills in Korea had their roots in real estate. Since then he has been focusing on resolving fundamental issues in real estate through developing ‘social real estate’. Recently his ideas have advanced beyond real estate to deep dive into other monopolistic markets such as financial services and platforms with a view to proposing alternative models which can bring about essential innovation. He has been awarded the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation Prize for Real estate innovation in 2017, followed by Presidential Citation for Government innovation in 2018.
